Teen Photo Exhibit Shows New Side of SL

A special photography and writing exhibit featuring the works of 12 talented
San Leandro teens will be on display at the Main Library through this weekend.

The exhibit is called “Behind the Scenes in San Leandro” and is the culmination of a summer- long class offered to a select group of the city’s teens.

The students spent 10 weeks this summer learning photography techniques from professionals and trying different creative ways of combining their photos with their writing in order to present a unique view of San Leandro from their individual perspectives.

San Leandro was selected as just one of a handful of cities in the state to receive a grant from the California Council for the Humanities that paid for cameras, photo paper, and other equipment for the kids to use Under the guidance of program coordinator Kelly Keefer, the students learned new techniques every week and went on mini “field trips” around the city to get the best shots.

In addition to the San Leandro Library exhibit, the students’ work will be featured on the California Council for the Humanities’ website next spring.
