Moorpark Acorn

Teens can participate in photography project

June 27, 2008

The Moorpark City Library will host a free summer arts activity for teens ages 13 to 18.

In the library's Metamorphosis project, participants will take photographs of their community and write about what they discover.

The library was granted digital cameras, a laptop, photo editing software and other equipment for the project. Teens may also use the library's video camera to make a documentary on the details of the project. Participants will also collaborate to create a book with the photos they shoot along with copy. The book will be added to the library's collection.

About 15 teens are expected to take part in the 10-week project which will begin in midJune. Regular weekly meetings are planned on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, but the schedule is flexible. A few openings still remain.

The project is funded by a grant from the California Council for the Humanities. The council awarded grants to 21 libraries to engage teens in an exploration of their community.

For more information or to register for the project, call Melissa Elliott, youth services librarian, at (805) 517-6374.
