S.F. youth document local heroes
The focal point of this project was an eight-week summer workshop -- Hunters Point Heroes -- for a dozen youth from San Francisco's most economically depressed neighborhood, Bayview Hunters Point. Workshop participants worked together to identify, research and then interview local heroes from the community and then produced a short documentary video based on that work.
Working with two lead instructors, the youth were responsible for all phases of production, from storyboarding to shooting and directing. The aim of the project was to spotlight local people who have made significant contributions to the community and restore a sense of pride in the area.
