LGBT elders tell their stories

For this project eight LGBT elders, ages 55 to 85, members of the Lavender Scrolls Project, a nonprofit addressing the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender seniors in the East Bay, were interviewed about being old and LGBT and photographed in a variety of settings.

A selection of photographs and story excerpts were printed on eight 3 x 6- foot life-sized panels called the Lavender Scrolls.

The project’s culminating exhibit takes place in May 2007 as part of the Older Americans Month Celebration and Out in Oakland gay pride activities.

“The exhibit will help increase a sense of community between LGBT elders and the general public,” said Project Director Christina Cappelletti.
