The California Council for the Humanities connects Californians to ideas and one another in order to understand
our shared heritage and diverse cultures, inspire civic participation, and shape our future.

WeAreCA

WeAreCAWeAreCA.org: Telling the Story of California’s immigration and migration history.

Make your history part of California’s history.

A First for California
WeAreCA.org is the only place where Californians can find out about the history of immigration and migration to the state and tell their own stories.

A Resource for Teachers
Are you at K-12 teacher? The site features K-12 standards based lesson plants that you can download and use in the classroom. The California History-Social Science Project developed the materials and helps promote the site to teachers through special workshops.

The role of Scholars
Top immigration and history scholars developed the site’s content and will continue to contribute to its ongoing development.

Why WeareCA.org is important
The site shows the role immigration/migration has played — and continues to play — in shaping the state, and broadens understanding of the diverse histories and cultures of the state’s population.

Understanding the past, shaping the future
The site is a starting point for dialogue between and among Californians of different backgrounds and experiences. Its ultimate aim is to help Californians understand the past in order to more clearly seem themselves as active players in shaping the future.
